About Us

Bioverda is an international sustainable energy company and is primarily focused on two key areas:

  • Bioenergy - landfill gas, biogas (anaerobic digestion) and biomass
  • Biofuels - biodiesel and ethanol

Bioverda is developing and operating businesses in Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and the United States.

Bioverda is the bioenergy division of NTR plc (www.ntr.ie). NTR is a leading international developer and operator in renewable energy and sustainable waste management. The company's core subsidiaries are involved in recycling-led waste management (www.greenstar.ie & www.greenstar.co.uk) and bioenergy (Bioverda). NTR recognises the increasing importance of developing renewable energy resources and recycling facilities and is committed to significantly developing its core businesses. In 2006, NTR committed to investing €2.5 billion in its core businesses within three years.

Bioverda's Strategy

Bioverda's strategy has been one of partnering with strategic operators to maximise development opportunities in biofuels and bioenergy. In Germany, Bioverda is working with Emerald GmbH to develop two state-of-the-art rapeseed crushing and esterification facilities in the towns of Neubrandenburg and Ebeleben. In the United Kingdom, Bioverda has partnered with Tees Valley Biofuels to develop a large scale biofuel facility in the North East of England. In the United States, Bioverda entered into a strategic joint venture with Virgin Green Fund (formerly Virgin Fuels) to create Virgin Bioverda (VBV LLC), which is currently developing two 100 million gallon corn-to-ethanol plants in Indiana and Tennessee.

In 2006 Bioverda acquired Irish Power Systems to become Ireland's leading landfill gas provider and renamed the company Bioverda Power Systems (BPS). Bioverda currently operates 22 MW of landfill gas assets throughout Ireland.

Bioverda is exploring development opportunities in large scale biogas (anaerobic digestion) and biomass energy (gasification) across Europe and the US.
